Casa Caffè Semadeni

Hans Semadeni, from gold prospector to confectioner Hans Semadeni (1836-1913) emigrated at a very young age. He worked as an apprentice in Italy, then prospected for gold in Australia. Back in Europe he learned the trade of pastry chef in France and opened a Swiss Café in Brighton. He gave work to many people from Poschiavo and helped them become independent. For this reason he is considered the patron of the emigration of Valposchiavo pastry chefs to England.
